one tooth in, one tooth out

yesterday we had doctor appointments.  afton tamirat has a major fungus in his hair.  he had to have some blood work to make sure he can handle the meds for the fungus.  mastewal wasn’t as bad, so she can just use the anti-fungal cream.  she also had severe excema on her arm which has been healing with lotion and hydrocortisone cream.  our pediatrician is Ethiopian and we were scheduled for the last appointments of the day.  mastewal refused  to speak Amharic with the doctor.  she’s a character.  after afton tamirat had blood drawn at the lab (lucky me….i got to hold him while they stuck him with the needle in both arms) we headed to the parking lot where we saw our other Ethiopian infectious disease doctor who also got to meet the kids.  we talked for a moment and then headed for Chick-fil-A  (a treat for being troopers at the doctors office—plus we were all starving)

today, we just hung out at the house. seth worked in the afternoon and as soon as he left, I picked up Myer and checked his mouth because I was going to give him something for teething WHEN I REALIZED A TOOTH HAD APPEARED! It’s razor sharp and you can barely see it but it’s definitely there.  I had a good afternoon with the children.  We played with punch balls and danced a little to our Ethiopian music.  Mastewal and Afton Tamirat also played “ready set go” for about an hour until dinner.

We had a tough time with Mastewal this evening.

When she went to bed I jumped in the shower then Seth yelled in “Mastewal lost her tooth”.  It’s been loose since we picked her up in Ethiopia.  She seemed really proud and said it didn’t hurt, I guess she just got up from the bed and pulled it.  We  wrapped it up and she put it under her pillow for the tooth fairy. we heard that the tooth fairy in Ethiopia left her 1 birr (approximately 10 cents)….what’s the going rate for a tooth in the U.S.?

Hahahahaha. Great title! Good report. BTW, “Ready, set, go” is one of my favorite games. I like to be the caller. It relieves me from participating.

    Suggested tooth fairie rates:
Well brushed tooth without any fillings – $.25
    Tooth with a cavity – $.10
Payment is contingent on evidence that the tooth actually belonged to the child presenting the tooth for payment. This clause was important when I was growing up because I had two brothers and we were all close in age. If one brother knocked another brothers tooth out the original owner of the tooth was the one entitled to cash in.
