Our Baby Boy

dsc_0023dsc_0026dsc_0034

Myer is Six Months Old Today. We really can’t believe it.  He has been such a joy for us.  He truly is a happy baby. He is very content. We don’t just say that because “he’s ours” He just really is a good baby.

All About Myer

  • He rolls over both ways, although mainly from back to stomach
  • He smiles a lot
  • He says ah-goo
  • He laughs alot when being tickled, when Mastewal and Afton “play with him”, when Roper shakes off, when you say “shew-weee”when laying him down for a diaper change
  • He’s grabbing at everything!
  • He’s eating carrots and squash, rice cereal every now and then, and will start sweet potatoes tomorrow
  • He has two teeth and I think he’s working on more
  • You can barely see his hair, he is very fair skinned with light hair–you have to look closely
  • He’s starting to sleep/nap on his side
  • He can cruise backwards in the walker
  • He loves the baby carriers: Ergo and Baby Bjorn
  • He’s wearing 6-12 months, 12 months and some 12-18 months clothing
  • and last but not least: HE’S PRETTY BIG. NOT OVERWEIGHT JUST VERY LONG!

our kentucky weekend

We had a wonderful time in Kentucky. The children were great in the car. I think the trip only took one hour longer than it usually does, not too bad. Some things I never thought about were “how am I going to use the restroom?” Kind of hard trying to keep an eye on all three and go at the same time….but we worked it out. We arrived on Thursday and had dinner and played with Papaw until Nana came home.  We settled in and the kids went to bed later than usual.   Friday we hung out with Papaw in the morning, we played a lot outside, took a walk and just enjoyed the nice weather.  It actually got HOT while we were there. I can’t even remember all that the kids got into, but they had a blast!  Friday evening we went to my brother and Beth’s house (Uncle Derrick and Aunt Beth) for a cookout.  Other extended family joined us all there.  Mastewal had a great time playing with Sierra (Beth’s niece).  I think she wanted to spend the night, but I’m not ready for that just yet….but I’m sure I will be in the future. Saturday: Me, my mom, Mastewal and Myer went shopping. Myer really needed some summer clothes and Nana certainly took care of that.  All the kids are ready for summer–we just need summer-type pajamas now.  In the afternoon my cousin Cortney came over to meet the kids.  We took another walk, went to visit and meet Aunt Jeanette, and then went to Millenium Park. It was pretty crowded, but Mastewal and Afton were able to see ducks and put their feet in the water.  We then went for sundaes from Baskin Robbins….and took some home to Nana and Papaw…and ate them BEFORE dinner…..only at Nana and Papaw’s house, haha. Sunday was my Papaw’s 80th birthday cookout.  The kids got to meet tons of extended family.  It was great. The also got to feed horses, and EAT!  Their favorite pastime.  It was really nice to see family.  We really miss you all and wish it wasn’t so long between gatherings.  I wish we didn’t live so far away. Monday we headed out after breakfast, my mom followed us to Lexington, and I was able to have an extra hand at Target, Kidz Nook and while we ate lunch. That was greatly appreciated.   Now we’re home (have been since Monday). I feel renewed after being home. I wish the great weather would have held out for us here, but at least we’ve been able to get out in between the bouts of rain. I think we all do better when we can get outside.  I will work on a post for Myer this evening.  I can’t believe he is 6 MONTHS OLD TODAY!

Here are some photos from our weekend in Kentucky. I’ll update and “fix” some of the photos, I feel like this post is taking way too long–and it’s driving me nuts having to adjust all the pictures so they will fit.

heading out

Leaving for KY.  Kids are eating lunch a little early so we can hit the road. First road trip with all three by myself.  I think the ride will be fine, I’m just worried about when we have to stop.

I have a post brewing, but I’m also trying to “let go” of some things, so my thoughts may not make it to the blog—but I feel like I need to get some things off my chest.

So if I have time I may have a post this weekend, while I’m away, I will. If not, I’ll update when we’re back.

catch up

So we went to Michigan over Easter. We were able to have Mastewal’s hair “done” while we were there.Seth’s mom’s  friend’s sister did it in her basement. It was a good time, “just the girls” doing girly things. She actually had a smile on her face after it was finished.First time for that!I think she was actually starting to enjoy herself toward the end of the styling.I’ve tweaked the style just a little over the last week or so.

We had a great time in Michigan. The kids got to meet grandparents, great-grandparents, cousins, an aunt and uncle and other friends of the family. They were definitely spoiled. They didn’t want to leave.I don’t blame them 🙂

The children were great on the car ride there and back.I just got a little crazy on the way home.I was tired.PERIOD.

Tuesday was my 30th birthday.I think we (Mastewal, Afton, Myer, myself) actually slept in that day.Seth woke us up with a phone call asking “did Mastewal give you the card” She then walked in with my handmade card.Apparently they worked on it while getting ready for bed the night before.I got this awesome necklace, I love it!30% of the purchase price goes to AHOPE

il_430xn46803118On the back of my necklace 1-15-09 is engraved. This is date Mastewal and Afton became a part of our family.

Seth’s aunt Karon arrived on Tuesday night.Seth I went out to Tampico for my birthday dinner. It was nice to get out, again. We talked about my return to Ethiopia. We then celebrated with an ice cream cake the following days.YUMMY!

Karon stayed with us until Friday. It was nice to have her here, especially after our first travel weekend as a family of 5.There was unpacking and laundry to be done.I was also able to schedule dentist appointments for Afton and Mastewal while she was here.I needed the extra hand, because it’s one thing to take them all to the doctor, but I was afraid the dentist would be a lot more difficult.

The children did wonderfully at the dentist. He said that both of their teeth look good.Mastewal did have one cavity, but it is on a tooth that is loose, so he’s not worried about it.  Based on the dental exam Mastewal is 6 years old (at least).  We’re deciding what to do about this information. We will likely change her birth certificate. We are also rethinking our school approach as well.

Karon left on Friday.I also got the news that Mastewal has latent TB.  No worries, she will just be on meds for 9 months.Friday evening Wally and Marilyn came over.We enjoyed the company. It was a nice visit, full of Mr. Potato Head, markers, and the swingset.

Seth and I then watched the movie Fireproof.

Saturday, Carla came over with her son, Jacob.I think (and hope) Jacob had a good time, I now our kids did.I then went out shopping and made some purchases with my birthday giftcards.YAY!

Sunday, we made another appearance at church. AND….I was able to hear the message for the first time since October BECAUSE Myer went to the nursery for the first time.Afton also went to the nursery and Mastewal went to her new class.I think it went well. Thanks to everyone that helped us out with our children on Sunday.Sorry I left so abruptly.I’m still new at the mom to three thing….and how to round everyone up and get out the door…and remembering to say good-bye to people.

This weekend we also cleaned/organized the house a bit.We needed to get things in  order, but it’s hard with everyone running around.  I’m pleased with how things are turning out.

Today the weather was crappy. We stayed inside all day. It bums me out, but hopefully by the end of the week it will be nice. This weekend Friday-Monday I will be traveling to KY for my papaw’s 80th birthday (and to visit family). This will be my first long ride with the children by myself.  WOOHOO!

just a glimpse of our weekend

Instead of using my spare five minutes to unpack and clean up from our travels, I’m posting a few pictures from our Easter weekend.  More to come!

04.04.09

Home for one month!  My brother and sister in law came to visit this weekend. It was wonderful. I hope they enjoyed as much as we did.  The children were so excited to finally meet Uncle Derrick and Aunt Beth.

We went to Fort Boreman Park, our usual attraction for visitors. Derrick and Beth watched all THREE children (and treated them to homemade pizza) while Seth and I went out for the first time by ourselves since Christmas. I guess maybe you can count “going out” as our drive to the airport also, but that ride leaving Myer to fly to Ethiopia was unreal.  I cried about 90% of the ride there.

Sunday we had a lazy day…and got a few things picked up around the house.
